Visting Uganda

This past March, Beverley and Janet visited the Lacan Kwite Group members in Uganda to teach more design classes and check on the progress of the group. The group is doing very well and all of the members were excited and eager to see Beverley and Janet.  While there, we are pleased to announce that Christina Bai gave birth to a daughter and Godfrey and his Wife welcomed a new baby to their family. Beverley and Janet are so pleased with the work the group is doing and they are so excited for the future of their designs and new creations.

β€œIt was wonderful to see the Lacan Kwite Members again. This was our 5th visit and training session since 2010. They have evolved into competent artisans with ideas and creations of their own. They are designers. They show their appreciation to us with their songs and dances and exuberant Acholi screams.
Goodbyes are always tearful but they are full of anticipation for the future orders of their unique jewelry.”

Paper Bead Works 2015

It is the start of the new year and Paper Bead Works is so excited to announce that the total of 2015 sales resulted in enough profit to fund the entire program for this 2016 year. 2015 brought a lot of success and opportunities to try things that Paper Bead Works had not previously. With multiple day shows in Stratford and Ottawa, Paper Bead Works was able to expand our customer base and spread the work about our wonderful group in Uganda.

Moving forward into 2016, Beverley and Janet have a trip planned to Uganda in March to bring new designs to the group. The new products have been important to maintaining and increasing sales with our existing markets. New designs ensure that our regular customers are also seeing the newest product while keeping our group up to date on the latest trends in Africa and beyond.

Another goal for 2016 is to expand our markets, with the  new designs we are excited to continue to host shows in communities where Paper Bead Works is well known  but also to grow our brand and recognition. This year, we have seen more children are going to high school than primary school, meaning that the costs to support each child has increased. This just means that we must expand our reach and invest in more opportunities to share our story, brand and designs.

2015 certainly bought many exciting opportunities and we are so thankful for the continued support our group receives. We are hopeful for a prosperous 2016 and excited to see how the new designs come to life.
